WOULD TWIGGY WEAR THIS?

Shift Dress, Primark via Charity Shop.
Shirt, H&M - Similar Here

If I absolutely had to pick a decade of fashion to wear forever and I couldn't chose the fictional decade of 70's sci-fi movies (all that silver pleather), it would have to be the '60s. All those cute little shift dresses, mini skirts and cute collars, yes please! I couldn't stand all the hippy boho rubbish of the 70s; the constricting waists of the 50s (no room for massive cake wedges); or the leg warmers of the 80s, my legs are warm enough thank you.

So it is probably a surprise that I don't own many shift dresses - out of the 30+ dresses I have in my wardrobe, less than 5 are shift dresses. The problem is my butt - I have a really small frame, but have the ass of a J-Lo. It often doesn't fit in trousers, lots of jumpsuits are a no-no and shift dresses can be a problem. The cute litle shift looks a dream on the top half, but if I can wrestle it over my hips, it is so tight that a slight bend over can lead to critical seam rippage.

So this Primark shift dress I found brand new in a charity shop for the bargain price of £5 pound is a firm wardrobe favourite, because it goes over bum whilst still being able to walk. It was a little bit chilly on the day, so I popped my trusty H&M shirt on underneath and some fairly thick tights to keep the chill at bay.

What decade of fashion would you wear forever?

Oh and something for the anime fans, if you haven't already done so watch a film called Harlock: Space Pirate. Yes the title is lame, but the animation is the best I have ever seen.

  1. First of all, love the dress. Secondly, your bum is far from JLo's in size - are you kidding?! Yours is so small! And as for the dresses - go for the trapeze shape ones (and maybe a few called "tent" - they were a bit more voluminous than trapeze shifts), still very 1960s, but perfect for girls with bums. :)

  2. I think I would have to pick 60's too and that dress just demonstrates why. It is so damn cute/chic that I'd be willing to rock that any day. About the J-lo ass you're lucky you have the skinny frame but the ass too. Embrace it

  4. Love this outfit so much on you Gems! That print is beyond pretty, and at that price, what a steal! Really like the fact that you styled it with tights and a white shirt. :) Great alternative for wearing a dress even on those colder days.

  7. Oooh, I love the sixties look you have going on here. I am tough-pressed to choose a decade but I would probably say seventies because it emcompasses the 50's which I love but with more choice, e.g. mock-regency!x

  8. I love the vintage inspiration. The dress is beautiful and this makes me want to try shirts under some of my dresses too. My favourite decade for fashion is definitely the 1950s.

  14. How beautiful is this look! The shift dress is stunning, the print is oh so pretty and I'm finding it hard to comprehend it's from Primark. Stunning! I love the colours too, perfection. You've styled it perfectly with the shirt and tights, it's the most perfect transitional look. The 60s are very inspiring, I don't blame you for choosing that decade to wear forever ;)

I really love the boho vibes of the 70s, the maxi dresses and hats, so it would the the 70s for me, but I would definitely draw the line at those hideous bell bottom jeans, urgh! <3
