GEMMA HEARTS MONOCHROME

Yes leopard print may be my first love (prostitutes can't even ruin it for me - street walker chic all the way, but I do also have a little bit of a soft spot for monochrome. It's something that never goes out of style and is an easy choice for when you're feeling lazy and can't be bothered to put something together. And Lord knows I am lazy, I should have been a cat - I love napping, being stroked behind the ears and serving up half eaten rodents as gifts to my loved ones. Wait not the last one.

This fabulous monochrome shirt was a Christmas present, but I had never worn it, because I just didn't know how. I thought it would look great with some black shorts, but I didn't have any - I did have some old black jeans from H&M that were way past their prime, so I chopped the legs off them and voila, new black shorts. Sustainable shorts that were free...that one is for you environment.

Sorry about the picture quality, I'm using the bf's camera at the moment and since it is way fancier than mine, I have no idea what I'm doing.

GEMMA SEWS DON'T YOU KNOW - PART 2

As I am still quite the novice at sewing, I do find it quite difficult to figure out what I am doing with patterns -I have two lovely Vogue patterns from Sew Direct that I haven't even opened because I know they are beyond my skills at the moment. So when I found a book that had a bunch of on-trend sewing projects that didn't require patterns, I snapped it up.

So the first thing I decided to make was this little tunic dress out of a fabulous tie dye fabric and some contrasting bias binding to tidy up the seam on the neckline. All you had to do was to draw around a men's t-shirt on your fabric and cut it out twice and stitch it together with some elastic through the middle to create some shape. I also decided to roll up the sleeves and stitch to give it a neater look.

What do you guys think, did I do good?

GEMMA SEWS DON'T YOU KNOW

I know I have been away for a long time and I don't really have a good excuse, I've just been busy enjoying life since I completed my Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. I'm not going to lie and tell you that it has all been easy, because it hasn't but I have certainly found more fun in life.

I've put great energies into my work and picked up some really exciting work and I have my fingers crossed that I will get some work for White Sands Australia. I have moved into a lovely new place with Mr Well Done and am in the process of making it my own. I turned 30 and decided it was a time I picked up a new hobby and started sewing.

Of course I am going to be the next Vivienne Westwood, so take a look at the first few pieces I made back in the summer, before I hit the big time :)

A little strapless number in a rather jaunty fabric.

The first thing I made and proudly owned by my sister.

Stay tuned for some further pieces I have made with my own fair hands. Any sewing tips would be greatly appreciated and if anyone has any ideas what I could do with a couple of metres of faux leather fabric, that would be great.
